Google intros Q&A service

Macworld: News: Google intros Q&A service

"...Google Q&A is strong in areas such as geography, information about famous people and physical facts, such as the size of planets..."

Well, seems pretty cool, since it adds to the features like define in Google search. I would like to see it mature and make use of it.

I guess Google is just trying to match the wikipedia search ability of Yahoo search.

Well, many things are still not displayed. Like I tried "How old is Steve Jobs" and also for Bill Gates, but both had no results shown. I'd wait for the feature to grow over time, then come back and use it as it gets better.

EDIT: well, just found this on the Google Weblog.

Vegas Apple Store

Well, I am right now at the Vegas Apple Store at Fashion Show. It looks a bit different from the "common" ones, and is actually a bit smaller than both the Pasadena and the San Diego ones I've been to.

Well, time to go off and have a little fun with the Dual 2.7 GHz G5 with the 30" monitor :P

Security Awareness for Ma, Pa and the Corporate Clueless

Security Awareness for Ma, Pa and the Corporate Clueless

Here's the rage of the internet right now. The blog of a company that switched from Wintel to Macs, including a Wintel bigot that now "sees the light".

I find the posts interesting, and worth reading. The posts are not really biased in any way, other than the guy being pissed at Windows, causing the switch.

Oh, and, man, it feels good when a previous Win-bigot begins to see that he was wrong. :P

Looking for a good Linux LiveCD distro

I personally can't stand Microsoft Windows. I'm looking for a nice fast one that has most of the tools I need to use, like OO.o, gaim, Firefox, XChat, GIMP(GNU Image Manipulation Program), and also a decent GUI(Graphical User Interface).

I'm posting this with a Ubuntu LiveCD x86 distro. It seems decent, boots fast *enough*, but I wouldn't mind something faster.

I ran a Ubuntu LiveCD PPC(PowerPC) distro, and it turned out that it didn't support my Airport Extreme card by default. Maybe I'll tinker with it and try to get it to work.

Any suggestions?

CVS Camcorder hacked - posted on hackaday

CVS Camcorder download alpha - hack a day

This is awesome, I can capture those little embarrassing moments on video! If only I had a CVS in the area.

Anyways, I think I'll go look for a CVS, get one of these, and have a little fun.

Too bad some of the software seems to be for MS Windows. Hope they come out with a *nix variant soon.

WebKit, now open source!

Well, WebKit, which is essentially what Safari is, is now open source, and the newest version is the first to pass the Acid2 test!

Anyways, I find it pretty good, now that it complies to most likely all the web standards, I've switched back from Camino to Safari/WebKit.

You can find info on WebKit here.

Get WebKit the easy way, using NightShift. It installs WebKit for you, updates to the most recent nightly build for you if you want to, and offers you the option to revert to a previous version if the new one is too buggy, all without touching Safari.

It's pretty good if you ask me. I'll report back if there are any problems.

Experimenting with Linux

Well, I just installed Ubuntu 5.04 on my old box a week ago, and just recently killed the GUI by trying to update the nVidia drivers. Looks like it is time to give Gentoo a try. I think I killed it when I couldn't get the installer to run... Anyways, I didn't really like Ubuntu that much. A bit too clunky for me. I still liked Slackware better.

Well, wish me good luck on getting Gentoo to work.

More Apple Stores on the way!

Apparently, there will be two more Apple Stores opening in the Greater Los Angeles area. One in Beverly Center, and the other in Sherman Oaks.

You can get more information here.

If there will be free shirts, I'll be at at least one of the openings, most likely the Beverly Center one.

Hope to see some of you there!

Web SSH Clients

Well, our school doesn't let us download and use software from school, and I can't run perl scripts from these computers, sooo...I've discovered the great world of web SSH clients.

The best one I've found is this one. Just thought I'd share this with you.

FBLA NLC 2006

Well, I'm back from Nashville, TN, the host city for the event. We stayed at the Gaylord Opryland Resort. It was a great hotel, but our room was a bit old. The conference had some good speakers, including Coach Carter, who gave a speech at the opening session. It was great. I competed in Econ, but didn't win anything. Well, it was a great experience, and it let me visit a place I don't think I would've ever visited myself.

Oh, the conference also gave me some ideas to work on, which will put some of that Perl to use. Don't know how long it'll take though. Maybe I ought to construct a timeline to follow.

Experience as a developer?

This may sound stupid, but here it goes. How does one gain experience as a developer? I've wanted to begin working on something, to put some of the skills I've learned to good use, but I have no idea how to do so. I don't know, I want to do something challenging, but many times, the annoying stuff, like doing the HTML for web stuff, or maybe the bad CSS happenings with IE just throw me off, and make me stop in the middle of the tracks.

How does everyone else cope with such things? I really want to do something challenging, but it's just those little annoying things that really turn me off.
